The Power in our words

I was moved by the Holy Spirit to touch on this topic, the power of our confessions.
The words we use can shape the way we think as well as the outcome of the many situations that we may encounter through our journey. Healthy, positive confession is something that has to be acted upon daily, the same way we provide our bodies with the proper nourishment's to sustain our health, so does the same apply to the things we feed into our minds.

For most, words can be a reflection of our outlook on life. You put two people in the same room and they look at a glass of water for instance, one may have a different perception than the other, one may see the glass half full while the other see the glass half empty.  In other cases, the environments that we come from can also shape and mold our personal outlook on life. None the less, it all shapes not only what we confess but how we live.

In my personal experience, when I didn't quite have a true understanding on how much our words impact us, I too fell victim to the fruit of my words all because of lack of knowledge.

Eight years ago when I was still trying to find my way, one of my aunts who is an evangelist sent me a book in the mail as a gift which changed my life forever; the book was titled 'The Tongue, a creative force' written Pastor Charles Capps (I will provide the link for this book if you would like to order a copy). As I dived into this book & I must say, it changed my life forever; giving me a better understanding of how much of an impact our words can have.

In the scripture, there are many illustrations on what God says about the power of words. I will break some of the verses down to give a better understanding of what the word says.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Matthew 15:18 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.

Proverbs 12:18 There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Now lets start with the passages from both Proverbs 18:21 & Matthew 15:18.

Going back to the beginning of this teaching, let's hone in on 'Life and death is in the power of the tongue' Simply put, depending on the confessions we speak, we can either speak life or death into existence, it can be the difference between a blessing and a curse.

In the beginning, when God formed this earth if you go to Genesis 1, the word speaks on when God created the earth. Everything that was formed, was first spoken. In the beginning the word says in Genesis 1:1-2:" In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.''

Now, as you can see; God already had a vision in how the earth was to be formed, so then you go to Genesis 1:3 "And God said, let there be light: and there was light.

Using that as an example, anytime Gods work was to be manifested; He spoke it and there it was.  Now I am going to fast forward a bit as I jump right into Genesis 1:26 "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." Now I am going to stop there.  Again, God spoke, and His word was established.  Just think about it, going back to Genesis 1:26 "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air.." And I will stop there.  In the beginning, God first had a vision, He spoke and it was established.

Now if you go back to where he speaks "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness", simply put, He desired to create man in His likened image, giving us dominion which includes the words we speak.

A lot of times where a lot of us miss the mark is our words and what we confess over ourselves. Now I have been subject to this as well until I did some studying on what the word says about how we are to confess and what the outcome presents.  To put it in laymen terms, you bare the fruit of whatever you confess.  Whatever you speak, that is exactly what you will have.

Now some may say and I used to do this myself , "I'm just keeping it real, I just call it like I see it." Let me tell you, for so many years, that was me, I carried a negative attitude and practically  spoke curses onto myself and didn't even think twice about it, in my mind; my attitude was "It is what it is."  Boy was I wrong.

I recall a sermon by a Pastor at this local church I attended where he was doing a teaching series on 'The Power of positive confession".

As I was taking notes and listening to the sermon, one thing that stood out most was "Use positive confession, it will determine the outcome of what you are believing for."  Till this day, I carry those words close to my heart and use them as a point of reminder whenever I encounter one of those challenging days.

Like it or not, our words can make or destroy us, depending upon how we use them. What God is teaching us today is to be mindful of how you utilize your words, be wise in what you confess over yourself because it can determine the outcome of your situation or another way to put it, if you are in a position of great challenges, your confessions could be the difference between what keeps you there versus what sets you free.

When God created us, He created us out of love, he spoke love into us and gives us the tools we need to have a successful, victorious life, but it goes back to our belief system, what we speak and how we think.

To give you another example from my own personal experience. I remember two years ago, I was in need of a vehicle. I was getting tired of catching the bus back and forth to work. So one day, after a long grueling day at work. After I get home, I check through my mail and I get this letter from a local car dealership. In the letter,  it stated that I was pre approved for a car, to give them a call to set up an appointment to speak with one of the salesman. Initially, I thought it was a hoax but something inside me decided to call; after all, what did I have to lose.

After speaking with the rep over the phone, we had set an appointment for me to come out to the dealership and see what they could put together. Now mind you, I had just paid all of my bills and had not one penny to put down on the car nor did I know how this situation was to pan out but in my heart, I desired to have a vehicle, so in faith; I spoke that I would get a car with a low down payment and I would have a car in good running condition, (Romans 4:17 Before him whom he believed, even God, who quickenenth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were).  I will go more in depth in the next part of this teaching. Basically, even though I couldn't see the car with my human eyes, in faith; I spoke it as if I already possessed the car (I will also do a teaching on faith this week as well to get in more detail).

In the natural, I didn't own a car yet but in the spirit realm, I knew it was Gods will for me to have transportation so that I could get back and forth to work. Philippians 4:19: But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

To sum it up, three days later; I got approved for my car loan and the down payment was minimal. Now if I would have walked into the dealership with a negative attitude and speaking against what God so desired to bless me with, then sure enough, I would have missed my blessing.

In closing, I cannot stress enough; no matter what it looks like, believe what God says. If you are in a situation of great challenge or crisis, turn your attention to the Lord and allow him to not only grant you the peace of mind you need, allow Him to impart His wisdom and whatever you do, don't let your mouth keep you in bondage if you desire to be set free. God has given us the authority to have dominion over this earth. Did He say it would be easy, No! But when times get tough, don't run to Satan, speaking like the enemy and expecting to be blessed, you are only speaking curses on yourself.  Always remember, you will have whatever you say. Proverbs 12:18 There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

The outcome of your life, even your current circumstances all lye in the power of the tongue, use it and use it wisely. I will close off on the very first of many teachings to come. Below, I will provide you links to these books which have helped to shape me into the Man of God I am today, may you all be blessed abundantly, stay in the word and know that God has got you covered! Love you all, God bless!

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
